Once upon a time, a hare and a tortoise lived in a jungle. They were fast friends. The hare was very proud of his quick speed and jumps. He often made fun of the slow-moving creature.
One day the tortoise came to meet the hare. The tortoise was slowly moving. The hare made fun of his slowness. He also passed humiliating comments about his slow speed. The tortoise was sick of this routine insult.
The tortoise challenged him to run a race to decide who was faster. The hare thought that the tortoise had gone out of sense. He accepted the challenge thinking it would be a cakewalk for him. They fixed a starting and ending point of the race.
The next day they started the race at the fixed time. Within no time the hare went far away and was out of sight. When the hare was near the winning point, he looked back and could see the tortoise nowhere. He thought the slow tortoise would take ages to come near him. He decided to rest for a while. He lay down under a tree and soon fell asleep.
Meanwhile, the slow and steady tortoise kept on moving. He passed the sleeping hare and reached the winning post. After sleeping long, the hare got up and resumed his race. He ran as fast as he could, but it was too late. He was ashamed to see the tortoise already sitting at the winning point. In this way, he lost the race. He could not utter even a word.
The tortoise was happy to win the race because of steadfastness. The tortoise said goodbye to the hare and left that place happily.
This story proves that only courage and determination are necessary to win, not strength or fast speed.
The Moral of the Story:
